The Kirby Vaccuum Cleaner Company Uk – Your Thoughts?

I am thinking of lodging a formal complaint against the above company and contacting watch dog. Have any of you had any experience with them?
You know the ones…
They come to your door and GIVE you a raffle ticket offering a FREE carpet cleaning session as one of the prizes. They take your phone number then low and behold 1 week later you have won the carpet clean!!
Then turn up and demonstrate their cleaner, dont actually clean your carpet at all. Then they blackmail you by saying that they are on the leader board for sales and that if they sell the cleaner to you then they will have won a trip to jamaica or something!
So then you buy the kirby and they get you to sign up for a service contract. This is an annual service but every year they will phone you 2 months before the service is due so that you end up paying for an annual service but only getting 10 months cover…. so con you even when you have bought the thing!
Just wondered if anyone else had had dealings????

Hi, my ex used to work for them, they are rip off merchants and are very hard to deal with on your own as that is the way they opperate, their sales are target based so the employees just want your money from the sale or contract then they aren’t interested in after care or helping you, i would advise you to go to watch dog and even try the ferret as they get better results, alot of their customers give up as they don’t get anywhere with them so i recon the ferret would be the best way to go.
the employees are trained to manipulate vunrible people and they are very pushy and sometimes people don’t notice how much they are acctualy being pushed.
yeah they cleaned a carpet for me a few years ago, some young kid didnt look much more than 17 – I think I got a sob story too, but I didnt buy it though
I’m not in the UK, but I bought a Kirby in the US almost 10 years ago. I didn’t have any of that experience. I was contacted by phone to book an appointment for a free one room carpet cleaning demonstration. I knew what it was before they showed up; that they wanted to sell me a Kirby, but my in-laws had one they really liked. Anyway, the guy shows up, and does the one room and then goes into the pitch. I listened, but when I declined he got sullen and upset (too bad). I told him I needed to think about it-spending that much money on a vacuum was a big decision. He left empty-handed, but didn’t give me any mumbo-jumbo about leader boards or anything. I called him back a week later and told him that if he could give me a better price, I would probably do it. I think the price I got was great, and aside from having to buy the bags at a special store, I am satisfied. One time I had a belt snap on the carpet cleaning attachment, and when I went to the store they put on the new belt (free; it’s in the warranty) and after showing me how to put the new one on, sent me on my way with 3 new belts (that I haven’t had to use yet) just in case.
It was a lot of money to spend, but I thought it was worth it. I never signed up for any service contract that needs to be paid for to be renewed…here they are under a lifetime warranty. Sorry if this doesn’t help you case. I wish you luck; if I had to pay for a service contract, I most likely wouldn’t have bought it.
Over priced rubbish, bin it get a good old fashioned hoover
Wouldn’t touch them with a bargepole. Sales staff are very pushy. Once in your house you cant get rid of them.
