Hardwood Floors Or Ceramic Tile. Your Preference?

February 22, 2010 by

My wife and I will be installing new flooring in our house in the near future. We’re trying to decide the best route to take. We will probably put the house up for sale in about 5 years, so we want to consider resale value/attraction.
So, if you were buying a house, would you prefer real hardwood, ceramic tile, or a combination of the two, throughout the whole house (2800 sf)? We prefer to have hard floors in all of the rooms, but would you (as a buyer) prefer carpet in the bedrooms?
Thanks for any input.

Ranch home, stucco, 2br, 1ba, 1 car garage, carpet and tile, lg family room with wood burning fireplace. Washer and dryer, microwave, refrigerator, stove, dishwasher. Quiet area, close to civic center. Home is listed with realtor at $79,900, but has not sold due to economy and many homes for sale in area. Have opportunity to rent home, but mortgage holder will not work with me regarding reduced payments. I am on social security.

Condo Question?

i know if you rent an apartment, you can’t make any changes (like new flooring). but if you BUY a condominium, can you do stuff like put in hardwood floors (or tile) where there used to be carpet?
i would like to live in a condominium as long as there is no carpet…hardwood and tile are okay. it would be pretty hard to find a condominium for sale with no carpet, so i am assuming i would have to get hardwood/tile installed myself
i have heard of some places that make you have carpet (to reduce the noise for the people below you) unless you live on the ground floor

Can A Builder Enter A Home After Sale And Rip Out Carpeting W/o Permission?

I just closed on a home in a new subdivision a week ago. At the time of close, a bedroom and living room were carpeted although I paid for tile upgrades. After the keys were turned over to me and after the close of escrow, I signed a doc saying no entry without my presence and I documented the flooring discrepancy. I returned to my new home today and the carpeting had been ripped out and replaced with tiles and damage to walls and baseboards. Is this a criminal violation? state=CA

Can I Carpet Over Asbestos Floor Tile?

I was planning to have Home Depot install new carpet throughout our house (we have a baby on the way). I just had a piece of floor tile tested for asbestos. It is 25% asbestos, unfortunately. House was built in 1967, but my husband and I were young and just getting married when we bought the house (8 years ago), and though we had it inspected, apparently asbestos was not part of the inspection. The previous homeowners did not mention any possibility of asbestos (the house was “for sale by owner” too). They seemed like good people, but shouldn’t they have said something about the tile? It seems suspicious that they had carpeted over this tile in two bedrooms, and the third bedroom has no carpeting at all, just those lovely tiles! And some closets have the tile too. Home Depot wants us to remove some tiles to tack down the new carpeting. Can’t they just carpet over it like the other rooms were done? I know we can’t afford to have the tile professionally removed.

i have a 1300 sq ft house that is carpeted but the carpet is worn out from traffic and animals.
i want to put brand new carpet or laminate flooring maybe tile.
what would be the cheapest. i think carpet because no one is getting carpet anymore and they probably have good sales.
approximately how much would that cost??
