Nicole Nichols purchased a new carpet for $287 and a vacuum cleaner for $121. What is the sales tax if she lives in Ohio where the sales tax rate is 5 percent?

Help, I’m So Stressed And Worried About My Kids?

Ever since I had my 2 daughters, 3 yrs old and 9 months old, I worry about everything. I don’t know how to relax. My latest worry is that we had new carpet installed in our living room and I had no idea that it is really bad for our health. Apparently there is formaldehyde in the carpet and it ‘off gases’ into the air. I’ve heard that it can do this for a long time, like months or even years. So I’m exposing my babies to this crap? I don’t know what to do…my husband told me to calm down and it’s not going to hurt them but I’m worried. We didn’t buy a high quality carpet…just something on sale at a carpet warehouse. What should we do? I can’t just up and move, but I’m so stressed out about this. I’ve heard it can cause long term damage…any advice? Will this carpet really harm my girls?

What Should We Do?

We are in the military and we have got orders to move in February. We have to sell our house and we don’t really have time to fix it up. It is in pretty good shape but needs painting, new carpet, ect. I don’t have the time to do much to it. Should I basically just sell as is and make a few allowances? How much allowance is a good amount for basic repairs. (the house has a great roof and good plumbing and a good working heating system) That is all I think really should matter anyway but does anyone have any advice for us.? We have to put it up for sale in 2 weeks. By the way we are first time sellers.

What Makes People Want To Buy Your House When It Is For Sale?

We put our house on the market this past week and have had 2 showings so far, but no bites. Our home is clean, remodeled with fresh paint (outside and in), new carpet, very organized, and I have air freshners all over the place. It has a basement (semi finished), two car garage (detached), four bedrooms, big deck, and fully fenced yard. Best of all, it is priced lower than other homes in our area that have sold for much more in the past 6 months. Why don’t people want our house!?

Can I Carpet Over Asbestos Floor Tile?

I was planning to have Home Depot install new carpet throughout our house (we have a baby on the way). I just had a piece of floor tile tested for asbestos. It is 25% asbestos, unfortunately. House was built in 1967, but my husband and I were young and just getting married when we bought the house (8 years ago), and though we had it inspected, apparently asbestos was not part of the inspection. The previous homeowners did not mention any possibility of asbestos (the house was “for sale by owner” too). They seemed like good people, but shouldn’t they have said something about the tile? It seems suspicious that they had carpeted over this tile in two bedrooms, and the third bedroom has no carpeting at all, just those lovely tiles! And some closets have the tile too. Home Depot wants us to remove some tiles to tack down the new carpeting. Can’t they just carpet over it like the other rooms were done? I know we can’t afford to have the tile professionally removed.

Will You Look At My Details And Tell Me If The Repairs To This House Are Worth It?

Not so bad things:
Kitchen will need new cabinets, or just sanded and refinished
Needs new carpet, 1000 sq ft.. although it has hardwood
Bathroom will need to be updated, nothing stylish
Needs heating and cooling unit, my uncle owns a business in this
Needs a fresh coat of paint, Sears always has cans on sale for $10 that were “mess ups”.. I could eventually find some good stuff there
Questionable things I have no idea about:
A hole in the living room ceiling needs repaired. Someone stepped through it in the attic. Is this an easy fix? It seems that you could just patch it up with a new piece of drywall.
*I’m paying cash for this house, living in it for awhile and renting it out while I find the next project.
My uncle would sell me a heating/cooling unit for 1k, and it already has duct work.
Other uncle is a land surveyor/contractor.
Can I get through this alive and make $ eventually?

Does Having An Open House Really Get Serious Buyers?

I have my house on the market in Ohio. Ohio is very slow in sales right now. The house has been totally renovated in 2006 using corian, cherry woods, new carpet, ect. We are not getting any bites and I’m wondering if holding an open house will really generate any serious buyers.

How Much Is Carpet Installation /sq. Yd.?

The installation would include the removal/disposal of old carpet/pad, moving of furniture, and installation of new carpet/pad. Pretty much everything involved. I got a quote and I want to see if I am in the right ballpark. Thanks!
