Great. The best source of info for you would be found at http://www.iicrc.org. They are the certifying organization for this industry.
There are many questions you would need to answer starting with can you afford to sit at your computer & answer other peoples carpet cleaning questions when business is slow. It’s always slow this time of year regardless of what the ad gurus claim.
There truly is a lot to consider. Most important do you have a base of business to begin with of about $50 G’s. If not you better have a savings account equal to a years salary to fall back on.
If you can make it work the rewards are great. If you have to struggle out of the gate you will need an unusual amount of determination & commitment. It will not be easy. Most don’t make it.
I wish you the best though.

well you’re going to have to find a lot of women who like to clean carpet, then you’re going to have to train them all. Thats the fun part of the job.

Go to work for a cleaning establishment.
There is much to learn about flooring and cleaning methods.
New products and methods are constantly changing and being developed.

Keep in mind it is not only cleaning the carpet, but you have to move all the furniture out of the rooms, then put it back again. That’s how most carpet cleaning business do it. The customer should not have to do it, especially the elderly. That’s a lot of work!

Perhaps you should get a job cleaning carpets for awhile to find out if you actually want to do it. When I lived in Mpls various Co’s were always hiring because the turn over is very high. You would learn about the equipment, the suppliers and the industry standards. It would allow you to go forward with a more realistic sense of what you want and need.

I agree with others. Get a job in the business and do your due diligence to see if you like it before laying out cash for equipment and supplies. Make sure you can do the work, can work with customers, and have a sense of applied chemistry needed for cleaning.
If you are a go-ahead, you can go a franchise route or try this company, who is an un-franchised model: http://www.baneclene.com/
At the very least, get Bane Clene’s catalog and read it thoroughly. It is a wealth of information on equipment and supplies.
