How Much Experience Does One Need To Work At Home Depot/lowe’s (see Details)?

I am considering applying for a part-time basic sales associate position for flooring/carpeting at either Home Depot or Lowe’s. Do I have to be an expert at flooring and installation to get this job? How much flooring experience do I need or do they train you while on-the-job?
Thanks!

they will train but experience is a plus
I am sure they will train you for this position. Otherwise you may be over-qualified, therefore you should find a better job. But you shouldn’t worry because I’m 98% sure they will train you to be a specialist. But it helps if you’re good at customer service because you’re going to need that.
I worked at HD part time in hardware and had only moderate experience. I’d worked with my husband doing home projects. The training I got consisted of OJT help from a co-worker.
I think they hire entry level as long as you can pass their math exams and it depends on what position you are applying. They only hire highschool graduate though – I believe.
From what I’ve seen, they must rely on OJT, because the ones I talked to wouldn’t no the difference between a laminate and Berber if you showed them pictures.
Good luck on the interview.
