How Do You Deal With A Salesperson Who Is Telling Lies To Try And Push You Into A Sale?

I’m looking at this housing subdivision that’s being built and a substitute rep for the area was being pushy. He told me they would only pay closing costs if I used one of their preferred lenders. This was an outright lie.
How do you deal with reps after they’ve undermined their own credibility? Do I call them on the carpet or be polite and go around them to deal with other people?

Down right call them on the carpet! Let them and their boss know that their credibility is on the line right now! I have done that and you will be surprised how the tune changes.
Just say “No Thanks” and mean it.
Since he was a substitute, get the name of the main sales rep and call on another day. Better yet, get a buyer’s agent to wade through the mire for you. The seller pays the buyer’s agent commission, and you should have someone knowledgeable to work with you all the way through closing of the deal.
If you really want the house, don’t bother calling them on it. It will be better for you, and other people that won’t have to deal with him, if you go straight to corporate (which is usually the builder).
Believe me, the salesperson you are dealing with has a boss. Once you find that person explain that you really want to buy, but you feel uncomfortable with the sales person you have been dealing with, and tell them why. I can tell you that they will be very receptive.
Let them know that you don’t want an apology or for the sale person to be nicer, just a different sales person.
walk away and have nothing more to do with them.
Speak Plainly that you do not care for these tactics, if he is unwilling to be honest, upfront and respectul of your wishes than seek out another rep.
Call them on it. Be assertive and don’t back down. There’s nothing wrong with standing up for yourself, especially with an investment as big as a house.
