Has Anyone Ever Had Any Problems With Pushy Car Salespeople While Test-driving A Car?

I see this car I want to test-drive, but I’m reluctant to go to the dealership because I’m just not in the mood to deal with a sales rep. haggling with me like a Turkish carpet salesman.
I was thinking about renting a car of similar make and model instead (through Zipcar), rather than have to put up with the dealer.

i’m a salesperson at dodge , and if you dont want to be pressured while test driving just say something. i mean all of us sales people hope you buy a car, that is how we make a living , however most will respect your wishes
sales people are required at most dealerships to go with you.. for insurance purposes

that is their job. just tell them you don’t like the hard sell, and MAYBE they will respect that.

all you do is call the dealership tell them you are serious buyer but i want to test drive the car myself and you want the best number upfront no messing around in and out done by the way i am a sales manager at a dealership (11years)

Going to the dealer is free. If the guy gets pushy just stand up to him and tell him to stand down. If he does not then you are free to leave. On that note do not hand over your keys for a trade evaluation untill you are sure you want to buy the car. Also don’t even park on there property so you won’t be blocked in. That way when you want to go you can.

Buy pass the car salesman and if really in need of a new or used car go to the Internet and get your best price from several dealers. Test the car on the road and just shine the salesman on he can’t force you to buy. Or you could lie like they do and tell him or her your very interested and you will be back of course you will right!!

not to mention the fact that while you have to put up with an annoying lying salesmen maybe every couple years when you buy a car, salesmen have to put up with annoying, lying customers (my car is in PERFECT condition, never had any problems) AND their unruly children sometimes several times a day…
so, try to look at it from both perspectives… i mean, understand something.. the salesman is not haggling with YOU like a Turkish carpet salesman, YOU are haggling with him. He already has a price on his car. If you just pay it, I promise you that you will be in and out of their fairly quickly, and each time you go back for service, will be treated quite nicely…
