Buying Carpets

If you enter a carpet store and look around, you will be amazed to see the wide variety you can choose from. There will be textured plush carpets, saxony carpets, berber carpets and commercial grade carpets. Carpets of all kinds are available, wall to wall carpets, carpets that can be cut and used and carpet squares.

When you buy a carpet your primary consideration must be the amount of traffic that is going to move on the carpet, not the colour of the carpet. Carpet for bedroom will not have as much traffic as living room.

You need to think about stain resistance also. You must keep this in mind when you think about carpet for dining room or play room.

You must know something about the rating of the carpet. They are basically rated on the scale1 to 5. Carpet of 5 rating are best for heavy traffic areas. 2.5 to 4 rating are best for normal traffic. Carpet with rating 2.5 or less are suitable for low traffic areas or very little traffic areas like bedrooms. If you choose carpet according to traffic it will last longer.

Carpets made of wool are considered to be of the highest quality. They are very expensive. The performance of these carpets over the years is the best among all the man made carpets. Two major benefits of these carpets are they are naturally soil resistant and they won’t get crushed like other carpets. Incase, you can’t afford to install wool carpet through out your house, atleast get it installed in the room with the highest traffic.

There are many other man made carpets to choose from. In high traffic areas, nylonn is the best choice and it is very durable also. It is stain free and repells mildue as well.

Another option is carpet made of olefin. This is also a nice choice for heavy traffic area. It is strong and easy to clean. Polyester carpet repels water based stains and is easy to clean. Polyster carpets look and give a feeling of wool carpets though they are very less expensive than wool carpets.

Let us come to colors. Light color carpets make the room look bigger though they look dirty soon. Dark color carpets make the room look smaller and cozy and absorb light as well.

When you have to buy a carpet and you like one for your home, bring a small piece of that carpet home. Observe it in the natural day light and in the artificail light at night. Notice the change in color if any and then finalize and buy it.
