Are Kirby Vacuum Cleaners Worth The Price? What Do You Think About Kirby Vacuums?

I had never heard of Kirby until the other night when a couple of Kirby salesman came to my door asking if I wanted to have my carpets cleaned for free.
I won’t go into the details about Kirby’s sales techniques… which I do find unappealing… but I’m curious if anybody out there has bought a Kirby vacuum and if you think it’s worth the price.
I can tell you that they were asking more than $1,800 for the newest model (the Sentria). The lowest they would go was $1180. I never knew vacuums could cost so much! And I passed on the offer — even though the vacuum was quite impressive.

I know they are expensive but I’ve had mine for 15yrs and have had no problems with it. This should tell you that they are good vacuums….=)
Hi,
I was offered for $900 and I have bargained further but it didn’t fly, so I think $900 is the best price we can pay.
I own a kirby g-6 and let me tell ya…NEVER..EVER…again! they are not worth the price. I have a german shedder aka german shepherd and it can not handle the hair. the bags cost me $5 a piece, belts $2 a piece cleaning solution is over $30 bucks and in my opinion doesn’t clean a carpet for crap and heaven help ya if you have to replace a part$$$…just my opinion.
We bought a used ‘94 Kirby in 1996. We paid $400. for it. I like the powerful suction, but it also comes with drawbacks.
The following are my opinions about this Kirby:
1. I don’t like the cost of replacing the filters (they’re about $8. a bag and only have 3 bags in a package.
2. It’s not easy to change from vacuum to using the hose.
3. It’s kind of heavy and bulky and doesn’t maneuver easily.
In my opinion, it’s not worth it. You can purchase a bagless Dyson for around $500. and they work great.
Does the $1800. price include all of the attachments?
Do you need all those attachments?
Are all the bells & whistles worth $1800.?
I have one my mother bought about 25-30 years ago and an even older one I got free that was being discarded. They do last forever as both still run fine, but they are heavy and don’t work any better than other quality vacuums in the $3-500 range, which is a lot less than they are asking. Save some money, plus the salesmen are real cheese balls as you mentioned.
My son in-law sold Kirby’s. The sales pitch is impressive, especially about sweeping away dust mites. Are they worth the price, don’t think so. They are to heavy and you’ll never use half those attachments.
Yes. I have one and I will never have to buy another vacuum or rug cleaner again.
Kirby vacuums are awesome but save yourself some money and get a Dyson. They work just as well (if not better!) and are cheaper.
I live where Kirby’s are manufactured and it will be the last vacuum you ever have to buy.. My mother-in-law got a refurbished one for a wedding gift and it STILL runs over 30 yrs. later.. Her mother-in-law has one as a wedding gift over 60 yrs. ago and it STILL runs as well.. They get them rebuilt for around $20 a year so it’s like getting a new vacuum… I’m not sure about the newer ones.. I haven’t seen them, I do know the old one’s practically run forever. In fact we used them when I was in college to vacuum our dorm rooms… Good luck
Forget it! That is so crazy. I spent 500 on a Dyson and it is amazing!
